Re: The Monte is (possibly) no more...
Oh..and still no adjuster has looked at my car yet. They hauled it 60 miles from where I live to put it in storage until the adjuster can look the car over and provide the estimate of damage. I was told today that I should know something by Wednesday. Wednesday?!?!?!

Newest development. The call came in today that the insurance company is going to total the Monte out. Waiting to see the chump change they intend to offer now. Another one bites the dust.

Re: The Monte is (possibly) no more...
Has YOUR Ins looked at the car yet? And what if anything did they say?
About 2 weeks ago at a cruise-in we were talking with a friend about auto accidents. He said someone hit his son once. They took the car someplace and parked it, till the Ins could decide what they were doing? He said he got a call one day the Ins. had towed the car off. (more then likely to harvest it for parts)
He said he called the Ins and told them, "I'll give you two hours to put a check in my hand, or I'm reporting the car stolen." He then told the In.s guy not to make his mind up right then. Think about it a while and call him back. He got a check for the car by 4pm the same day.
Why? Cause until they pay you, it's still your car. Not their's If they remove the car without paying you, it's the same as stealing.

Re: The Monte is (possibly) no more...
Oh, the conversation was very enlightening. The adjuster actually knows the car. He has seen the car at 3 different car shows in the Nashville and Lebenon TN areas over the last two years. He was actually shocked that this was the Monte he had to look at today. We talked for quite a while about all the modifications still left on the car. He asked me specific questions about the suspension mods, the brake mods, the interior mods, the paint mods, all the chrome on the engine, etc. He asked me to send at least three different pics of the car at different shows. He was supposed to provide me with a quote by today, but he wanted more specific information before he provides the estimate for the settlement. He says he even talked to me at the Slammin and Jammin show in Lebenon in 2007. I talk to so many people at shows, I had to apologize for not remembering him. We will see how it goes tomorrow.

That blows, but the matter of fact is that if you didn't have extra coverage on the car they will only pay for stock AFTERMARKET parts, not original GM parts.Usually stock GM parts are actually more expensive than your performance parts.Your body shop can tally the total cost of stock parts vervus the custom parts you added;you may have to pay the difference in cost.Good luck, keep us informed.

What I've always heard was.............
Any and all work you do to the car and have receipts to show the work, they have to reimburse you for if they total out your vehicle.
You may want to check in to this?

Re: The Monte is (possibly) no more...
Latest and greatest. After sending in the laundry list of stuff done to the car, I was offered $15,825.63 for the totaled vehicle. AND I got my 20's and stereo out of the car before they took it (had to put my chrome 16's on and the factory head unit back in). I am not griping at all on this figure because I was going to sell the car come winter anyway. A little secret, I was going to be happy with getting $12k out of it upon sale (and I was going to leave the 20's and stereo in for the sale). So all in all, I came out (in my opinion) smelling like a rose. Say what you want on the price I got, but I am not going to dispute it at all. (A kiss is blown in the direction of the now officially retired Monte Show Car). Now, it's to the Chevy Dealer to buy that new HHR SS I have had my eye on for a little while.

Re: The Monte is (possibly) no more...
If you like the new stuff thats fine, but I would take the money and get into the older cars even if it ain't a 1st-4th gen Monte.
Glad it worked out for you.

Re: The Monte is (possibly) no more...
As for Montes, not out of the game yet. Still working on the 86 SS. The frame is done, all suspension work is complete and fresh, engine is almost done, trans is done. Body is off being blasted and prep work for paint. Still a long way to go. Had my eye on a Gen 1, but it was sold before I found and responded to the ad. Will still be here with all of you great folks.
