I can't say about a Demon carb, but I'm using carb spacers with two of my 350s. They both run a Q-jet carb (which I happen to like very much) and I've never had any issues with running a spacer.

the biggest thing a spacer will do is move your power a little higher in the rpm. Shouldn't affect too much if anything.

You had problems with the Demon carb?
Any that I know who've bought a Barry Grant carb all say they like them.

the base plate holes were not truely round and my idle wouldn't idle below 1100rpm.

I thought BG priced their carbs so high cause the after sale was suppose to be great.
That if you had any problems, all you had to do was contact them?
