 MPG
1. Slick 50 2. Valvoline 10 W 30 3. Tires at 2 lbs below Maximum pressure 4. New Serpentine Belt 5. New Spark Plugs - Bosch Iridium Fusion (4 prong) (Put them in Like you said Brandon - except I should have pointed the car downhill !!!!) 6. New Plug Wires - Bosch Low Resistance 7. K & N Air Filter 8. Tornado 9. Pure Gasoline, No Ethanol. Lucas the fuel once a month. 10. And Last and Maybe most Important, I drive a lot slower.
I have tried many different speeds, both ways. Best yet, is yesterday, way home, I drove 60 until I was 20 miles from here, then I cut back to 56 mph. Once I put my foot in it until I got away from a jerkwad a-hole. 80 mph for a mile. 40.6 mpg on the way home yesterday. I always do best on the way home.
I am getting 38.4 mpg driving between 55 and 60 mph round trip. 900 miles a week. In a car with 103,000 on it. 2002 Monte Carlo SS. 3.8 V6.

 Re: MPG
Welcome here to MMG! That is some great MPG you are getting there, most small cars don't get but 35mpg, all the mods you have done is helping you on gas milage though. Without those mods, I don't think you'd be getting quite that good. But none of those are very costly mods, and for the money you are saving on gas. Good for you. I wish my car was that good.

 Re: MPG
Jared - I'd rather be running your older Monte for style. I also have a 1985 Silverado with the 305. How do you have your 305 set up for HP and MPG ? Ours has only 38,000 miles, with an auto, no scratches in the bed, and bone stock. So, I'm a little hesitant to put the Edelbrock Performance Carb on, But the Rochester needs Rebuild and probably will cost more and Never run as well. Your Thoughts ? - Hoss

Your Thoughts ? - Hoss The car is a bone stock 192k mile car. Its a nice car, but high miles. Seems I only get around 15 MPG on the average of city/highway. What do you get with your truck? Only thing I've done is take some of the polution junk off, it had a smog pump, that was removed long ago...future upgrades are a 350 with around the 300 HP range, and keep the overdrive. Of course then all the other computer crap will be removed, it'll be just like a 70 model!

 Re: MPG
14 or so MPG on the Truck. Having trouble with the electronic ignition, because of overheating and where it sits, high and to the back. So going now with Borg Warner Ignition Module, hopefully that will help -we'll see. The truck is mostly for weekends and shows, I'm driving the Monte 900 miles a week and loving it. I'm really into taking older rides, doing low cost mods, and seeing what they accomplish. That's why I like this website so far. But you should stick with yours I think - I believe "The best MPG is in a Paid For Car". But the 350 sounds sweet. Some of the crate 350s out there are really awesome.
