 RiP Scott Kallita
Not sure how many may have heard, but over the weekend at an NHRA event held at Englishtown in NJ, Scott's car blew up and hit the retaining wall at the end, at almost 300MPH... This is the video...be warned it is not for the faint at heart.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DziJdGwFQjU RiP Scott Joe

 Re: RiP Scott Kallita
Stupid!!! I was pointed out the CONCRETE!!!! retaining wall at the end of the track, and I just shook my head. The fire did not kill him, the impact did. Just like Dale Earnhardt, he was killed from a head and neck injuries and that "Sudden Stop". Drag Racers don't have the honze device. They should have been just a net and big sandpit at the end, something that gives.....to late now. A life has been lost.

 Re: RiP Scott Kallita
due to copyright reasons, the video link no longer works...
so there was a concrete wall and teh end of the track and he hit it? i assume he lost his parachute or something?
NASCAR broadcasts of races mentioned him.... our local strips just have gravel traps at the end.... or a steep dirt hill

 Re: RiP Scott Kallita
The car exploded while going down the track, knocking him unconcsious...so no shoot opened, and no brakes were applied...he was traveling about 300mph
The reason the car launched over the net and over the trap wa due to the way the NHRA had the sand pit groomed. if they would have left the pit the flat like it always is scott would have hit the catch fence and more then likely would be alive today. but the NHRA grooms the pit with waves from the left wall to the right wall. they stick up above the track about a foot. scotts car hit one of the ends of the waves and it launched the car into the air. if you notced when you watched qualifing the dragster went into the dirt and the waves were there. but if looked closely during the t.v. finals the pit was flat.

 Re: RiP Scott Kallita
tahts how they do truck run off ramps.. the idea is that when you hit teh waves your bumper catches and pulls you to a stop... works VERY well with trucks, i guess at 300 mph and a lightweight dragster it doesn't go over too well

I read on another forum that local police estimated the IMPACT of the crash at 200-220 MPH, and that folks was head on into a wall that did not give an inch.
